Annike Dase is originally from Germany and gained degrees in Psychology, German and Literature, and a MA in Women’s Studies, before finally deciding to become a librarian. Annike started her career in librarianship at the University of Nottingham, UK, where she catalogued everything and anything before she went back to Uni to complete a MA in Library and Information Science. For the past eight years she has been working for Trent College, a large independent boarding school in Nottingham with students from 3-18 years. Annike has led the school community in designing their own libraries – the first of two developments has been opened in 2008 and the second library is envisaged to open in late 2010. For the new libraries to be used properly, Annike contributed to the implementation of an information literacy programme into the school curriculum and developed strategies to encourage reading for pleasure.
Annike is a member of the executive board of the SLA, a keen networker and particularly interested in raising awareness for the contribution that school libraries make to student achievement, teacher satisfaction and general well-being. She believes that now is the perfect time for school libraries to shed the image of outdated and dusty dungeons and lead the way into a bright future where anything is possible.
